Roopkund Lake is a glacial lake in Indian Himalayas surrounded by glaciers and snow-clad mountains. It is situated at an altitude of 5,029 meters (16,499 feet) with a depth of about two meters in Chamoli district of the Indian state of Uttarakhand. By air
The nearest airport is in Pantnagar. It is 140kms away from Roopkund. Air India and Alliance Air have flights operating on the route.
By road
We can’t deny that road trips are fun. If you are planning to go to Uttarakhand through road then leave early in the morning to beat the traffic. The buses are operational from New Delhi ISBT in Kashmiri gate. Private Volvo buses are available if you want to travel in deluxe buses.
By train
The nearest railway station to Roopkund lake is Rishikesh, Uttarakhand. Rishikesh is well connected with the road. Once you reach Rishikesh, you can continue the journey by road until you reach Roopkund lake.
Difficulty level
Elevated at the altitude of 15,696 ft. covering the distance of 53 Kms in 9 days requires a strong belief within oneself. Always make sure you are physically and mentally prepared to go to such great lengths when doing such big treks. However, the difficulty level comes down at times. Conserve your energy and always think ahead of the route. The weather conditions should be checked to tackle any problems that may hinder the trekking plans.
